CWC Announces Digital Subs Of 190,000

Cable & Wireless Communications said that it has taken almost 190,000 orders for its digital television service, with 150,000 installations completed. Of these, more than 90,000 customers are already using interactive services.

The cable group began to roll-out its digital service last May (see Cable & Wireless Communications Rolls Out Digital TV Offerings), and recently announced a range of new partners to its interactive service, including Iceland, GuardianUnlimited, Teletext, and Gameplay, bringing to forty the total amount of partners connected to the platform.

Digital broadcast services from the group are now available in the north-west, parts of the Midlands, the south east and the south coast, with roll-out planned to extend to Greater London during the summer.

Adrian Chamberlain, chief executive of ConsumerCo at CWC, said: “We have led the world with the implementation of commercial advanced digital cable services…Penetration and revenue are already higher with digital than analogue. But we don’t intend to stand still – more innovations are planned including the introduction of enhanced TV and voice activated applications.”
