Daily Mail And Bailey Deal Expected Today

The ownership of the Nottingham Evening Post is expected to be resolved today. Northcliffe Newspapers, owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust announced in June it was to buy T Bailey Forman, but the deal was not approved by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.

It is believed that a deal is close to being finalised between the Daily Mail and the Department of Trade and Industry. DMGT was given until today to convince Tim Eggar, Trade and Industry Minister that the deal should go ahead despite the MMC view that the deal could be against the public interest.

… The Liverpool Daily Post is the first regional newspaper to go on-line, from Wednesday this week. Only business pages will be available initially. The service will use the Tel-Me system, for a subscription of £300 per year.
