Daily Mail Circulation Figures Re-Issued

The Daily Mail has agreed for its January 2000 circulation figures to be re-issued following an investigation by the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). Revised monthly figures are currently available, with six-monthly data due next week.

The investigation was initiated when two complaints from within the industry were received by the audit bureau. Sales figures during a promotion, in which the paper was sold for 10p in the north-west of England for a week in January, had not been correctly reported by the newspaper. During such promotions a lesser rate sales rule comes into effect, which the ABC ruled had been “misinterpreted”.

The reissue reduces the January 2000 figure by an average of 73,974 sales. The ABC National Newspaper figures for March, due to be released on 17 April, will carry adjusted six-month average net sales figures and restated reports for January and February.
