Daily Mirror Unveils New Saturday Supplement

The Daily Mirror has unveiled a new Saturday listings magazine, called We Love Telly!, to replace the two Saturday supplements that were axed last month (see Trinity Mirror Closes Saturday Magazines To Cut Costs).

The launch is the latest of a series of changes to be implemented following Sly Bailey’s strategic review of Trinity Mirror, which recently claimed the Mirror‘s M magazine and its listings title, The Look (see Trinity Set To Cut Jobs In Strategic Review).

The new 56-page magazine, which will feature the biggest stars and all the must-watch programmes for the week ahead, will be edited by former Chat and Loaded editor, Keith Kendrick. The title has been in development for some time and the Mirror claims it will be a key driver of its weekend offering.

Piers Morgan, editor of the Daily Mirror, said: “This is a very exciting new magazine designed to re-energise our Saturday paper. It is staffed by a brilliant team of people, led by Keith Kendrick, who are passionate about television.”

He continued: “That passion radiates through We Love Telly! and I have no doubt that this magazine will be a massive hit with Mirror readers. There will be further exciting announcements concerning the Mirror‘s editorial content in the near future.”

Phil Hall, editorial development director at Trinity Mirror’s national newspapers, said: “We researched the market very hard to find out what readers were looking for, and responded to their views. The focus of We Love Telly! is very much on delivering what matters to our readers.”

The Daily Mirror recently announced that 45 jobs are to be axed across its editorial division, as part of a continued cost cutting initiative designed to increase profit margins at the group (see Jobs Go At The Daily Mirror As Cost Cutting Continues).

The latest ABC figures for the six months to July 2003 show that the Daily Mirror has seen its circulation fall by 6.8% year on year 1,973,488, down from 2,116,825 in the same period the previous year.
