Davies Takes On Ad Director Role At Mail On Sunday

The Mail On Sunday has appointed Simon Davies as its new advertising sales director, following the departure of Sue Dear, who left the group last week.

Davies, who will take over the role with immediate effect, was previously advertising sales director at Ireland on Sunday, which is also owned by Associated Newspapers. In his new position he will report directly to the Mail On Sunday‘s managing director, Mike Ironside.

Dear held the position for three years, following a stint as advertising director at the Evening Standard. Her departure follows a range of staff changes at Associated Newspapers following the appointment of Mike Anderson as managing director of the Evening Standard last year (see Evening Standard Managing Director Steps Down).

The Evening Standard‘s ad sales director, Mike Orlov, also left the paper late last year and it is understood he is to head up advertising at Richard Desmond’s forthcoming London paper, the Evening Mail (see Desmond Plans To Launch New Evening Paper For London).

The latest ABC circulation figures for May 2003 show that the Mail on Sunday experienced a 1.4% year on year increase in circulation to 2,330,043, up from 2,298,338 in the same period in 2002. The title’s closest mid-market rival, the Sunday Express, also experienced a solid increase in circulation, which rose by 6.5% year on year to 940,681.
