DBC Prepares For Summer Launch Of Film Service
The Digital Broadcasting Company, the group run by former BSkyB executive, Richard Brooke (see Newsline), has announced that it is to launch its 12 channel pay-per-view film service on the Sky Digital platform in the summer.
The group is backed by Pearson, which has a 12.3% stake in the company (see Newsline). Deutsche Bank is also now a major shareholder.
The films provided by DBC will differ to those already available on Sky Digital, according to the group. Included will be acclaimed arthouse films, quality classics and library films.
Sky Digital customers will be able to choose from a range of 20 films a day that will be scheduled to run at different intervals. Prices will range from £2.99 to £1.99.
Richard Brooke, chief executive at DBC, commented: “We are delighted to be joining the Sky Digital platform at this time. DBC is a unique broadcast business which will increase choice and diversity to the viewer and bring the success of the ‘pay-as-you-go’ concept to the TV market.”
Channel 4’s pay -TV channel Film Four is also currently available on digital satellite (see Newsline). Initially, the DBC service will only be available on the Sky Digital platform, and as yet the supplier has no plans to be carried by ONdigital or future digital cable services.
