DE: German Opposition To Car Code
In the light of the draft code of conduct for car advertising, as proposed under the UK Presidency of the EU, the German advertising trade body, the ZAW, has held a meeting with the president of the German Automobile Association, the VDA. The two agree that there is no call for such a European-wide code, as car advertising has no cross-border character. Moreover, car advertising in Germany is already closely regulated by a widely accepted self-regulatory system, established by the automobile industry. The VDA plans to send a note on its position to the European automobile association. The UK Advertising Association is holding a meeting on 10 February in London to discuss the issue with EC Presidency and Commission officials.
