DE: Wide restrictions proposed

The German health ministry has proposed to the ZAW, broadcasters, members of the alcoholic beverages industry and the German Federation of Sport that there be an extensive restriction on the advertising of alcohol, although it is suggested by the ministry that the advertising industry should enact a ‘voluntary’ code of conduct. The ministry’s demands include:

  • no alcohol ads on day time TV
  • no ads on radio between 11am and 10pm
  • no alcohol advertising at sporting events
  • alcohol advertising to carry ‘health warnings’ for social groups ‘at risk’
  • the banning of outdoor advertising of alcoholic products within 100 metres of schools or youth centres
