Decaux Takes Glasgow Business From Adshel

Outdoor advertising company, JC Decaux, has snatched the bus shelter advertising contract for Glasgow from rival group Adshel. The 15-year contract was put out to tender and bidders included Decaux, Spanish Group Cemusa and Clear Channel International’s Adshel which has held the business since the early 1970s.

The business is understood to be worth around £3 million, with sites coverage an area with a population of over 750,000 people. Decaux will now remove all of Adshel’s existing bus shelters and replace them during the course of 2000 with a new JC Decaux design.

Jean François Decaux, chairman of the French group, commented: “We are delighted with this decision which will establish JC Decaux as the prime Citylight (6-sheet) media owner in Scotland and reinforce JC Decaux’s national presence in the UK to approximately one third of the 6-sheet market.”

Decaux also said that the company will increase the number of advertising shelters in Glasgow to over 600, concentrating in the city centre where coverage is currently poor.
