Dedicated Radio Services To Launch This Summer

Dedicated radio services licensed by the Radio Authority, will be covering a number of major sporting and music events this Summer.

For the first time Royal Ascot Day Radio took to the airwaves on 17-21 June and Special Olympics FM is also broadcasting for the first time for three weeks leading up to the National Summer Games in Portsmouth and then during the week of the event itself (12-19 July). Radio Wimbledon will broadcast between 23 June-6 July while Radio Avalon will cover the Glastonbury Festival from 27-29 June. Scotland’s biggest music festival, T in the Park, will be supported by its own station for the second year running.

The Authority also released its Annual Report which shows that the number of Restricted Service Licences (RSLs) in 1996 reached 324, nearly double the number in 1991.
