Dennis Launches Games Portal

Dennis Launches Games Portal

Dennis Publishing is investing £2m in the launch of a new website, computerandvideogames.com , bucking the downturn affecting the new media industry.

The new games portal, which is described as “a complete online fix for addicts of computer and video games,” launches into a market which has seen a recent spate of closures and payoffs, with publishers such as IPC and Emap cutting back thier new media investments.

Dennis hopes that the games site, which caters for a variety of formats from Playstation 2 to Xbox and allows users to filter content with “extensive personalisation features,” ties in with CVG magazine, which it acquired from Emap last year.

Managing director of Dennis Interactive, Guy Sneesby, said: “On top of our investment in content and talent, we have made a significant investment in technology to guide users through what will be one of the largest and most comprehensive games sites ever built. This site will attract over 500,000 users in its first month after launch. And its not an exaggeration to say that the site will be different for everyone.”

Dennis has acquired rights to use content from Emap’s Nintendo Official magazine on the site and has also acquired Cheatstation.com and Csports.net to provide users with cheats and gaming statistics. Editorial support will be provided by Dennis’ PC Zone Magazine and it’s Official Dreamcast Magazine.
