Advertising network Dentsu Aegis has further grown its offering in the north of the UK with the acquisition of Manchester-based creative agency BJL.

BJL, which launched in 1987 and expanded into London in 2014, employs 75 people across a range of consumer and B2B clients – including The Co-operative Bank, Subaru Europe and Hilton. The agency claims to have expertise in brand strategy, advertising, content production, PR, social media and CRM.

“We have worked with BJL for many years and admired both the stand-out creative work that they deliver and the impressive talent they’ve grown from their headquarters in Manchester,” said Rachel McDonald, managing director, Dentsu Aegis Network North.

“The addition of BJL further strengthens our offering and ability to offer true end-to-end brand solutions for our clients across creative, media, digital and technology.”

Nicky Unsworth will continue to lead BJL as CEO, alongside managing partner Jackie Holt and commercial director Iain Kerr, who completed a management buyout of the agency in 2004.

“Having built our integrated model around the changing needs of brands and their consumers, we are ready now to embark on the next phase of our growth as part of Dentsu Aegis Network,” Unsworth added.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Dentsu Aegis North has over 700 employees across Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh and Newcastle, and works with clients such as Thomas Cook, Halfords and Holland & Barrett.
