Desmond’s Star May Take On Sunday Market
Express Newspapers may be looking to launch a Sunday edition of red-top title the Daily Star, according to a report in today’s Campaign.
The Daily Star is the only one of the three titles purchased by Northern & Shell in 2000 (see Gossip And Girlie Publisher Takes On Express And Star) to have performed well since being taken on by Richard Desmond. While the two Express titles have seen an inexorable decline in circulation, the Star has grown its circulation from 506,000 in February 2000 to 638,000 in February 2002, despite a shrinking market for tabloids as a whole.
Express Newspapers has yet to comment on the possibility of the launch.
