Devil Commercial Receives Complaints

The Broadcasting Standards Commission (BSC) has upheld a complaint concerning an Irn Bru advertisement which showed a small boy transforming into a devil. The viewers complained that the advertisement was inappropriate and was potentially frightening for children. The Commission believed the advertisement was inappropriate and was shown when many small children would be watching.

In July a Nike advertisement received similar complaints for showing occult images *(Nike Euro’96 Ad Draws Complaints).

The commission also upheld a complaint concerning the treatment of a caller by a DJ on Northants FM 96.6. The show is well known in the area for its interaction between listeners and presenters but one conversation was believed to have over stepped the mark. The Complaints Committee said the DJ was over excessive when he called the lady inappropriate names and made fun of her speech.

…Jane Leighton has been appointed as chair of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCC). She replaces Lord Pilkington who retires on October 31. When the BCC merges with the BSC on March 31, she will become deputy chair of the new Broadcasting Standards Commission.
