Digital Radio Forum Seeks DTI Funding

The UK Digital Radio Forum has welcomed a report by the National Economic Research Associates (NERA) which concludes that digital transmission is essential for the long term health of the radio industry. It coincides with the news that the Forum is bidding to win funds from the Department of Trade and Industry in order to support the roll out of digital radio sets across the country.

Dominic Riley, chairman of the UK Digital Radio Forum Press & Publicity Working Group, commented: “The NERA report highlights that the take up of sets will be a slow and gradual process over the coming five years. As a result, the UK Digital Radio Forum is approaching the DTI with a view to applying for contributory funding from the digital test bed fund to help fuel the roll out of digital radio sets.”

The Forum also said that it is now up to manufacturers to press on with the production of portable digital radio sets so that they become affordable and widely available.
