Digital TV Group Has New Members

The Digital TV Group has announced that 16 new members have joined the group taking the total membership to 24. The new members include Hitachi, Panasonic and Teletext.

The Digital TV Group was created to provide an industry-wide forum to facilitate the introduction of digital terrestrial television (DTT) in the UK. Its members are mainly major communications, television and electronics organisations and include the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BT, Pearson and Toshiba.

The forum aims to co-ordinate efforts to develop the technical systems necessary for DTT services as soon as possible, hopefully by the end of 1997, and in line with the timescale envisaged in the Government White Paper published last year. It is an open forum, not a commercial partnership or joint venture. The aim is to develop an open and competitive market in service provision, receivers and conditional access to ensure the rapid implementation of services.
