Digital TV Penetration Forecast At 6.5% For 2003

Digital Terrestrial TV’s penetration rate is forecast to grow from 0.3% in 1998 to 6.5% by 2003, lagging far behind broadband cable penetration which will stand at 32%, accoring to research from Merrill Lynch.

The analyst also forecasts that the number of broadband homes passed will increase from around 8 million in 1996 to 15 million by 2003. In the same time period the report suggests that BSkyB’s DTH subscribers will grow from 3.3 million in 1996 to 4.7 million by 2003.
