Dish Ownership Grows
The number of British households with satellite TV dishes grew by 26,000 in January this year to a total of 3,395,000, according to the latest figures released GfK Marketing Services. This follows a growth of 77,000 in December.
The January 96 growth figure is lower than previous years and compares with 31,000 in January 1995, 30,000 in January 1994 and 44,000 in January 1993.
Research also shows that a growing proportion of people are starting to replace existing systems with new high-specification receivers (with Dolby sound systems and receivers capable of accessing over 200 channels). In the year to September 1995, 19 per cent of all new satellite receivers were purchased as a replacement to existing equipment. This compares to 16 per cent in the year ending September 1994.
