Disney+ is on track to “reap the most” in additional revenues by 2028, according to a new forecast.

The subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform is forecast to climb by $7bn between 2022 and 2023 in Digital TV Research’s SVOD Forecasts Update report.

This would equate to a 14.2% share of global SVOD revenues, ahead of Paramount+, HBO, Amazon and Apple TV+.

Meanwhile Netflix is forecast to still be the biggest player in the global SVOD market, taking the biggest individual share of revenues in 2028 of $32bn or 32%.

However, Digital TV Research’s report predicted Netflix’s 2028 revenue total will be “flat” on 2022 with falls in its revenues to come from North and Latin America, while Asia will grow.

Total global revenues from subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platforms is expected to rise from $99bn in 2022, to $124bn in 2028.

Out of this addition of $25bn in revenues, the US will account for $5bn and China $1bn.

Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said of the findings: “This growth comes despite most of the major platforms scaling back their content spend, which makes them less attractive to new subscribers. There is still plenty of growth left in the sector – both from international expansion and as US pay TV subscribers continue to convert to OTT.”
