Display Advertising Grows In Regional Press, Says NS
The Newspaper Society (NS) says that during 1997, regional press display advertising grew by 12.5% when compared with 1996. This figure was derived from an NS survey.
The Society says that figures soon to be released by the Advertising Association will verify that both revenue and share of press display advertising grew significantly last year.
It says that in terms of ad revenue rate of growth, regional press outperformed national press and television, but was beaten by radio. The report thanks a buoyant economy, strong consumer spending and NS Marketing for this growth.
However, NS national development manager Charles Ross, says that regional press has a serious image problem with senior figures in advertising. Ross is concerned that many advertisers regard regional newspapers as “invisible and lacking credibility.” To combat this, he says, the industry must embark on a marketing campaign to improve regional press’ image.
