Djokovic’s intense victory against Federer peaks at 9.1m

Yesterday’s climatic confrontation between Serbian Men’s Singles title holder Novak Djokovic and Swiss usurper Roger Federer secured Sunday’s biggest audience, with Wimbledon 2015: Men’s Final (1:15pm) netting an impressive audience share for BBC One.

For the second year in a row (third overall), the two competitors fought tooth and nail to get through to the grand final of the men’s single event, with 2014’s court skirmish netting a total of 5.9 million viewers.

With history repeating itself, yesterday’s sense of SW19 déjà vu managed to improve on last year’s audience, with an average of 7.3 million live viewers taking in the action.

A massive 50% of all those watching TV throughout the four hour broadcast were tuned in to BBC One, with the audience peaking at 9.1 million around 5:15pm.

This was a significant increase on Saturday’s Ladies Final (BBC One, 1pm), with just 2.8 million viewers tuning in to see Serena Williams working hard to defeat Garbiñe Muguruza.
