DMA And Email Marketing Association To Merge

The Email Marketing Association (EMMA) and the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) are to merge in a bid to strengthen their work in email marketing.

The newly merged body will be called the DMA Email Marketing Council and hopes to provide greater influence through consolidation.

Ten members from the former EMMA have been elected to the DMA Email Marketing Council. Nick McConnell from Digital Impact will be chairman and Chris Combemale from E-Mail Vision will be joint vice-chair, along with Jeff Barnes from Bluestreak International.

James Kelly, managing director of the DMA, commented: “We are delighted that the DMA and EMMA will be working as one. Their early work and great contribution to the development of best practice and education in digital direct marketing provides an invaluable resource. Combining theses efforts with the DMA’s and working together from now on will enable us to provide enhanced representation for the direct marketing industry and ensure continued growth in the email marketing sector.”

Nick McConnell, chairman of the Email Marketing Council, added: “EMMA members have realised that they are able to bring some very significant skill sets in education and best practice to the DMA. Together we will be able to provide a singular and stronger voice in the area of online marketing. The DMA also plays a vital role in helping us reach and educate our consumers about the role and benefits of email marketing in their lives.”

According to figures released by the DMA earlier this year, the UK Direct Marketing industry is “outperforming” its advertising counterparts with expenditure increasing by 10% year on year during 2001 to over £11 billion (see Direct Marketing Industry Shows 10% Growth In 2001).
