Last night’s launch of ITV1’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here saw the broadcaster outperform its terrestrial rivals, scoring an average audience of 8.4 million adults to secure a share of 36.6%.
The impressive debut saw the programme exceed the performance of last year’s launch night, which secured a lower share of 35%, despite attracting more viewers overall (see I’m A Celebrity Off To Good Start For ITV).
Last night’s programme got off to a dramatic start, with EastEnders actress Elaine Lordan suffering illness and being stretchered away. The programme peaked with 8.5 million viewers in the 9:45-10pm slot.
BBC One’s competing programmes Egypt and Panorama drew average audiences of 4.6 million and 2.4 million respectively, while Channel 4’s film Notting Hill attracted an average of 2.8 million.
