DRG Rolls Out Services In London

The Digital Radio Group (DRG) has today launched its DAB digital radio services for London, bringing eleven new digital stations to a potential 8.5 million listeners in the capital.

The new services are designed to cater for “disenfranchised” groups of listeners and include: AbracaDABra; a station for families with young and pre-school children, Purple Radio; a dedicated service for London’s gay community and SBN London; providing new and alternative music for students.

Chairman of the DRG, Lord Alli, said: “This multiplex has nine digital only services and the quality and unique content is moving digital radio forward all the time. DRG is a consortium of music, media, electronics and retailers and is collectively looking after and encouraging diversity in London through DAB digital radio.”

The DRG consortium, which includes, among others, GWR Group, the Wireless Group and SMG, was awarded the third digital multiplex licence for the Greater London area last June (see Digital Radio Group Wins Third London Multiplex). The other two digital multiplex licences for the area are held by CE Digital (see Capital And EMAP Win First London Digital Licence) and Switch Digital (see Switch Digital Wins Second London Licence).
