Early Evening News Shift For ITV?
David Gordon, ITN’s chief executive yesterday said that ITN is pressing for its early evening news bulletin to be moved to head-on competition with the BBC’s Six O’Clock News.
Gordon, speaking to the Broadcasting Press Guild, said that ITN’s early bulletin suffered in the ratings because it was up against Neighbours. The Six O’Clock news attracts around 7.5m viewers, with ITN attracting 2 million less.
The news comes after Carlton announced an alteration in their early evening news bulletins. (Newsline 14/03) The first half of London Tonight is to start at 5.10, putting Home & Away at 6pm, against the BBC’s main news. This was in a bid to draw viewers to the commercial station before the start of the popular Neighbours.
Marcus Plantin confirmed yesterday, as did David Gordon, that there are no present plans to move News at Ten.
