Eastenders Beats Bond
Unofficial overnight ratings for Monday nights’ viewing battle show the BBC’s third episode of Eastenders fared better than ITV’s spoiler, the Bond film Living Daylights. Eastenders achieved an audience of 11m; the first hour of the Bond film got 8.7m. Although this is lower than the usual Eastenders figures, the other episodes have weaker opposition.
The BBC has published a declaration setting out the principles by which it carries out its commercial activities. One of the key principles is that the BBC will not use its public funding to gain an unfair advantage over its competitors. The code sets out clear criteria for all BBC commercial activities, and underlines that licence payer money will not be put at risk in commercial ventures.
