Elstein Sets C5 Targets

According to David Elstein, Channel 5’s chief executive, between 70 and 80% of the population will be will be able to receive Channel 5 at the end of its first year. He also believes a viewing share of 5% will be achieved.

Channel 5 has encountered retuning problems and certain parties believe the Channel will not be able to meet its launch date of March 1997 *(ITV Claims C5 Will Complete Retune In ’98). Channel 5’s budget for retuning has also increased in the last month because of an extra 1.8 million homes needing to be retuned *(C5 Launch Delayed).

Elstein said that Channel 5 will mainly be a film channel and will show tasteful erotica. He also hopes Channel 5 will attract a younger audience.
