EMAP And Carlton Join New Audience Measurement Tests

Both EMAP and Carlton have joined the tests for the new audience measurement system being conducted by the UK arm of Arbitron, Continental Research (see Arbitron Test Run New Audience Measurement Device). Classic FM, Talk Radio, BBC GMR, Channel 4 and the BBC are also amongst the broadcasters involved in the field tests.

The system uses a personal portable meter (PPM), a small pager-like unit which is able to record which radio stations or television channels the carrier is tuned in to. This system, says Arbitron, will revolutionise the way in which audiences are measured.
