EMAP Announces Digital Plans
EMAP has announced a series of initiatives to expand its digital operations. It plans to spend up to £75 million on digital activity until March 2001 and EMAP Digital, which houses its online operations, will become a separate division .
Headed by Paul Keenan, the division will be responsible for all online assets globally and will seek out and develop new e-commerce ventures. Its financial operations will be clearly separated from the rest of the company, allowing it to increase its financing options which include joint ventures, independent investment, spin-offs and the use of EMAP Digital equity.
EMAP currently produces 42 revenue generating websites, of which 30 are business to consumer and 12 business to business. Its most recent deal increased its online motor portfolio (see EMAP Acquires Online Car Trade Business) with the acquisition of an online car trade business.
EMAP’s chief executive Keith Hand, said: “In EMAP Digital, as a separate division, we have an appropriate structure to facilitate management control and transparancy of our online assets. We are not simply seeking additional advertising and marketing sales, but the potentially far more valuable e-commerce revenues which are available on the internet and other digital platforms.”
