Emap Announces Imminent Arrival Of FHM In Hungary

Emap is moving closer to its target of establishing 20 international editions of men’s lifestyle title FHM by April next year. An announcement was made this week that, in addition to the German and Dutch versions already in the pipeline (see Emap Disposes Of Euro Business Titles, But Targets Euro Lads), the magazine will launch on 28 September in Hungary.

Emap have recruited Miklos Omolnar, the editor of Story, a leading weekly gossip magazine in Hungary, to be editor-in-chief of the new title, which will be published under license by Hearst-VNU Budapest Publishing House, who also publish Hungarian Cosmopolitan.

FHM’s international managing director, Chris Llewellyn, commented, “The Hungarian magazine market has great potential, with magazine advertising revenues projected to grow more than 25% in the next two years.”

Emap’s moves to expand the FHM brand to an international audience, including taking it to the US (see EMAP To Launch FHM In The US), comes at a time when many have predicted that the boom time in the UK men’s magazine market is over. That said, the latest ABCs saw UK FHM reach circulation figures of more than 715,000 (see Men’s Lifestyle Market Makes A Comeback), while the market as whole increased by over 6%. The projected circulation target for FHM in Hungary is 50,000.
