Emap Announces Plans For Expansion In France And In The Future

Following yesterday’s news that it is to close failing lifestyle title Sky (see Emap To Axe Sky While IPC Says ‘See You’ To Later), Emap has not only announced an acquisition and a launch, but hinted that more are to come.
The group is to purchase the 50% interest in outdoor magazine group Media Nature currently held by its joint venture partner Bayard Group. A cash consideration of £16m will give Emap full ownership of the French hunting, fishing and gardening titles by the end of June.
Robin Miller, Emap’s group chief executive said the announcement was in line with the groups commitment to developing core skills and assets. “Having part owned Media Nature’s magazines for several years, we know the business well. [It’s] a typical Emap style bolt-on acquisition which complements our existing activities extremely well. We will do more of these”
The group is confident that the acquisition will bring immediate earnings enhancement, containing as it does some well-established and market leading titles. Media Nature has a total subscriber base of 650,000 across its four monthly, two bi-monthly and one quarterly title.
Emap is to make further ventures into France’s magazine market with the launch today of a sister title to the UK’s ADDX reflects our desire to generate organic growth in our core French business.”
