Emap Close To Regional Titles Sale

Emap Close To Regional Titles Sale

Emap is expected to make an announcement tomorrow regarding the sale of its regional newspapers interests when it announces its final results. If confirmed, the deal is expected to raise £200 million for Emap.

Potential purchasers are believed to include Johnston Press, Newsquest, the former Reed regional newspaper group, and Northcliffe, owned by the Daily Mail and General Trust.

If the sale goes ahead, Emap will have transformed itself from what was originally a company devoted to regional newspapers, into a magazine owner and more recently the UK’s second largest commercial radio owner behind Capital. Emap is following a recent trend amongst large media owners of selling off regional interests; Thomson sold most of its regional titles to Trinity last year; and Reed sold its regional interests to a management buy-out.
