Emap Launches Magic Digital Radio Promotion
![]()
Emap is launching what it claims to be the UK’s biggest ever DAB digital radio give away to promote its Magic Network of stations in the North.
The £50,000 promotion will see each of the eight Magic stations give away an Evoke DAB receiver every week for a year, in an attempt to increase uptake of the rapidly growing medium.
Throughout the week listeners will be invited to contact their local magic station to nominate their workplace to become the ‘Magic Workplace Of The Week’. On the following Monday morning, during each breakfast show, one workplace per station will be selected to receive a free digital radio.
Commenting on the campaign, Emap’s director of development, Shaun Gregory, said: “Once listeners have experienced the quality of DAB digital radio they will be hooked. Retailer initiatives of this nature coupled with our cross media presence will ensure that Emap continues to be at the vanguard of digital radio development.”
Last month the Government confirmed plans to review the digital radio industry, in a move that could produce a switch-off date for the analogue signal (see Government Announces Review Of Digital Radio). The announcement followed the release of a study which showed that sales of DAB digital radios increased by 165% in 2002 (see Sales Of DAB Digital Radios Boom In 2002).
