Emap Launches Re-Vamped Chart Show

Emap Launches Re-Vamped Chart Show

Emap’s new interactive Smash Hits chart show is to launch on Sunday 5 January between 4pm and 7pm, after Pepsi withdrew its sponsorship from the Network Chart Show (see Emap Launches Multi-Media Chart Show).

The new show is to be presented by Mark Goodier, who previously presented the chart show on Radio One, and will allow listeners to influence the chart position of their favourite acts by phone votes or SMS.

Mark Story, managing director of Emap Radio, commented: “The New Year marks a new era for chart shows with the launch of The Smash Hits Chart, the UK’s first ever interactive countdown. We’re delighted to have Mark, the best known voice of the chart, as the voice of the Smash Hits Chart. People can have their say right up to the day when Mark presents the definitive Smash Hits Chart.”

The new show will have the potential to reach 5 million radio listeners via Emap’s radio stations, which include London-based Kiss 100, Key 103 in Manchester, Radio Aire in Leeds and Radio City in Liverpool. They will also hear the chart on Smash Hits and Kiss DAB digital radio. It will also be broadcast on Smash Hits TV channel on digital television.

The race to replace the dominance of the popular Pepsi Chart Show is now on, after GWR also announced the launch of its own interactive chart show across it’s Mix network (see GWR Joins Race To Replace Pepsi Chart Show).

BBC Radio One has also revamped its chart show and has introduced a new presenter, 23 year-old Wes Butters, to host the show, which will run from 4pm to 7pm on Sundays.
