Emap Looks To Rough For New Ideas

Emap has announced the appointment of David Rough of Legal & General Investments as non-executive director. Emap chairman Adam Broadbent commented: “It is important for any Board to be receptive to new ideas and we look forward to [Rough] bringing his expertise to the Emap Board.”

Emap’s radio stations saw a 0.7% increase in weekly reach, year on year, in the Q4 2001 RAJAR figures. Its consumer magazines put in a mixed performance in the Jul-Dec 2001 ABC figures, with titles including Celebrity Looks, which has since been closed (see Emap’s Celebrity Looks Fades Away), Bliss and Internet Magazine suffering severe year on year falls in circulation, while celebrity title Heat saw another spectacular rise, of 106% year on year, and music magazine Kerrang!, buoyed by a renewed interest in heavy metal music, saw a 63.5% increase in circulation.

The group released interim results in November last year, which were in line with expectations- normalised pre-tax profits were up 8% to £55m- but showed the extent to which the group had suffered along with the industry by the ad revenue slump. At the time, there was no expectation of improvement in the second half.
