EMAP Radio Launches Sales House
EMAP Radio has confirmed that it has appointed Tom Toumazis, former managing director of Eurosport, as the head of a new sales company set up in the wake of the Capital takeover of Virgin two weeks ago (subscribers see Capital Buys Virgin Radio).
The new company, dubbed EMAP Broadcast Sales, will sell airtime for EMAP’s TV interests, such as The Box cable channel, as well as for its radio stations. Toumazis comments: “I’m starting with a blank sheet of paper but one thing is for sure, we will definitely be a creatively led operation.” The sales house is initially looking to employ 55 people.
Tim Schoonmaker, chief executive of EMAP Radio, said that there would also be scope to develop through the line opportunities among the group’s print, radio and TV business for advertisers.
This latest development in EMAP’s operations was prompted by Capital’s takeover of Virgin because this led to the disbandment of MSM, the Capital-owned sales house which represented EMAP’s radio stations, to form Capital Sales & Marketing.
