EMAP Sells Titles For £205m
Media group EMAP has today confirmed the sale of its regional newspapers and printing businesses to Johnston Press for £205 million.
The sale, which has been rumoured for some time, encompasses all of EMAP’s regional newspaper and printing activities. These are concentrated in the East Midlands/East Anglia, Yorkshire and Sussex: newspapers include four evening titles in Peterborough, Northampton, Kettering and Scarborough; 30 paid for weekly titles; and 31 free weekly titles. Together they represent a weekly circulation of over two million copies.
The sale is conditional however, on the consent of the President of the Board of Trade and approval from the shareholders of Johnston Press.
The decision to sell these operations reflects EMAP’s increasing focus on strengthening its core businesses of consumer magazines, both in the UK and France, business communications and commercial radio.
EMAP also issued its annual financial results today (see today’s Newsline).
