Emap Signs 3G Content Deal With Hutchison

Emap Performance Online has signed a deal to provide entertainment and music content to Hutchison 3G which holds the UK’s largest third-generation mobile phone licence.

The two year deal, which is the first of its kind to be negotiated by Emap, will see the company provide content from all of its music titles including Q, Mixmag, Smash Hits and Kerrang! as well as content from its lifestyle brands FHM, New Woman and Empire.

Emap Performance Online’s commercial director, Mandy Key, said: “The service will Hutchison’s 3G users unrivalled access to Emap’s leading entertainment brands. The deal is an example of a great partnership which sees Emap leading the way in accessing new audiences, by taking its brands onto new technological platforms.”

Managing director of Hutchison 3G, Colin Tucker, added: “Emap understands the potential offered by third-generation services and will be using their experience in multimedia to deliver attractive content to our customers.”

The penetration of 3G handsets is predicted to rise from 35% to 75% over the course of 2003 and multi-media messages capable of carrying video streams, digital photos and MP3-style sound files are expected to become available by the end of the year (see SMS To Offer More To Advertisers).
