EMAP Splashes Out On RIS

EMAP has announced a £9 million deal to buy the bulk of Register Information Services (RIS) and Shots magazine from the Register Group. Register Group was recently purchased by EMAP and eXtreme Information, but EMAP has also now completely bought out the services RIS and Shots, which will operate as parts of EMAP’s Business Communications (EBC).

RIS is a subscription business providing advertising and market information to media owners, advertising agencies and advertisers. Its services include ALF, which monitors brands, agencies and key personnel, and Genesis, which is an electronic database of information on advertisers, agencies and brands.

Shots illustrates the best creative work and the most innovative production techniques currently being used in advertising worldwide, in both magazine and video format.

Its acquisition adds to EMAP’s position in the TV and film production market, where it already owns Broadcast, Screen International and The Production Show. The move will also enhance the group’s media and advertising market information portfolio which includes BRAD in the UK, Media Daten in Germany and Tarif Media in France.

Derek Carter, chief executive of EBC, commented: “It is rare to acquire such high quality business titles. RIS and Shots complement our current activities in the advertising information markets. They will also accelerate the development of our electronic information services in both the UK and mainline Europe.”
