Emmerdale Boosts ITV
Almost 10 million people watched the hour long Emmerdale special last night (Thursday 18th July). According to overnight figures, 9.9 million (56%) tuned to see how Mandy Dingle got on in her date with Dave Glover. This has given ITV its highest Thursday peak time audience in 1996 (46.0% compared to BBC1’s 34.1%).
In comparison, BBC1 had a share of 6.2 million viewers (34%) for EastEnders, and 4.2 million (25%) for Summer Holiday.
Freddie Star gained an audience of 7.9 million (45%), compared to BBC1’s Aunties Sporting Bloomers which had 5.6 million (32%).
