Emmerdale Considers Third Episode
ITV is considering plans for an additional weekly episode of Emmerdale. A spokeswoman told MediaTel that ITV is discussing the idea with Yorkshire Television, which makes the soap, but stated that plans are far from definite.
Emmerdale, currently transmitting two episodes a week on Tuesday and Thursday, has just achieved its biggest audience for two years, with the episode of Thursday 8th February when Frank caught his wife Kim in bed with her lover Dave; this attracted 13 million live viewers. The last time live viewing for Emmerdale managed this was during the Lockerbie style plane crash.
The possible expansion for Emmerdale comes at a time when Coronation Street is known to be planning an extra weekly episode by the autumn. Eastenders added an extra third episode back in April 1994.
Last night saw the first episode in Carlton’s new soap opera; London Bridge, a weekly half-hour 26-episode serial is set around a restaurant and flats in a converted mill-house close to London Bridge.
