Energis To Launch Interactive Rival To Open

BSkyB’s interactive television service Open is set to get a rival as business communications and internet company Energis prepares to enter the market with its own multi-channel package of corporate content.

In a joint venture with software developer Graham Technology, Energis will initially provide companies with the opportunity to offer interactive services to customers on the digital television platform. Later it is hoped the same interface will allow products and services to be offered seamlessly across interactive TV, the internet and WAP platforms

Mike Grabiner, Energis’ chief executive commented, “Interactive TV is changing the way that companies interact with their customer base. By 2003, estimates suggest that over 7 million households in the UK will have access to digital interactive TV. The joint venture positions us at one of the fast-growing areas of the interactive marketplace.”

An agreement has already been reached with Zendor.com, an e-fulfillment business set up by N Brown and GE Capital, to develop a portal proposition for retailers wishing to move into interactive TV.

BSkyB acquired full control of Open in a deal last month (see BSkyB Takes Control Of Open, Plans To Improve Look, Feel and Services).
