BBC Enterprises profits for the year to April 1993 have risen by over £6m since last year, increasing from £5.6m to £11.8m. The sudden boom is being accredited to the sales success of Noddy, which enabled the commercial wing to contribute £60m towards the making of new BBC TV and radio programmes, a rise of £7m. Michael Palin’s Pole to Pole is also being heralded as a contributor to this year’s success, with the hardback book selling over 500,000 copies.
