ESpotting Expands Into Europe

Search targeted marketing group, Espotting Media, is building on the popularity of online advertising by expanding its European operations into Sweden, Denmark and Norway.

The company has secured deals with Yahoo! and Lycos to distribute their ads in the new territories. Advertisers including Ebookers, Stepstone and media agencies Outrider and Mediaedge:cia have signed up.

Earlier this year, the group secured a three-year deal with Lycos to have its sponsored links included on the portal’s web directory and channel pages in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy. The deal was significant because it was the first time that a paid-for listings provider has integrated its sponsored listings into the pages of a portal on a pan-European basis (see Espotting Secures Pan-European Tie-In With Lycos).

In the last twelve months, Espotting has continued its European expansion drive launching operations in seven new countries, giving them a stronger portfolio of products to offer to advertisers.

Espotting’s chief operating officer, Daniel Ishag, commented: “Paid-for listings is a sector which truly crosses country and cultural boundaries; advertisers demand targeted, cost-effective traffic and distribution partners desire additional revenue streams, and users insist on relevant results. Its a model which provides opportunity.”

Espotting Scandanavia will be based in Stockholm and include executives who have previously worked for Ask Jeeves and LookSmart, which recently announced the end of its partnership with BT (see LookSmart And BT End Joint Venture).
