EU: Action Plan For Internet

The EC has approved a draft action plan intended to promote the safe use of the Internet. It identifies measures that could be supported by the EU to combat illegal and harmful content on information networks. The EC proposes the establishment of European centres enabling users to report illegal content on the Internet, as well as the development – by access-providers, content-providers and network operators – of self-regulation and content-monitoring schemes. In addition, it recommends the use of inter-operable rating and filtering schemes to protect users, especially children. Finally, the plan provides for awareness-raising measures for parents, teachers, children and other consumers.
