The EP has adopted a Commission proposal to amend a 1979 Directive on the labelling of alcoholic beverages. Speaking during the debate in Brussels the MEP Horst Schnellhardt (D, EPP) welcomed the Commission’s proposal as it seeks to close a long-standing gap on the labelling of alcoholic ingredients. However, in recommending that the EP adopt his report Mr Schnellhardt also proposed a number of amendments to clarify the legal base for the proposals and ensure that all the provisions with the same objective are subject to the same legal procedure.
