EU: EC postpones action on Loi Evin

The European Commission on 19 June agreed to postpone its consideration of action taken by European alcohol producers against the French Loi Evin. The decision was greeted with relief by Europe’s main advertising bodies. The college of commissioners will now return to the matter in the in December 1997. Commission sources indicated that the question had been between rejecting the action and postponing it. In December, the issue may well be a question of whether at last to endorse action or again to postpone it.
