EU: EP Committee adopts Larive Report
The EP’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee has unanimously adopted the Larive report on the follow-up to the Commission’s Green Paper on Commercial Communications at its meeting in Brussels last week. Only two amendments to the draft report) were adopted, with Mrs Larive proposing a strengthening of the role of the Commercial Communications Expert Group, and a text which calls for self-regulation in cases when national sensitivities are too divergent for mutual recognition to apply. The report as adopted contains serious criticisms of the Commission’s Legal Services, and demands greater transparency in decisions on infringements cases. The full report is due to be considered by the EP in January 1999.
