EU: Future Thoughts On AV Policy
Marcelino Oreja, European Commissioner responsible for audio-visual policy and culture, last week opened the first meeting of the think tank he created to reflect upon future audio-visual policy guidelines for the EU. The Commissioner stressed that digital technology is set to transform the European audio-visual industry. He encouraged the think tank to consider how the European content production industry (film, television, multimedia) can get the most out of these developments, how the authorities at European and national level should respond to these expected changes in the industrial, taking account of cultural and societal challenges, and what considerations should be given to ethical considerations in the new audio-visual landscape.
