On 19 February the EP adopted Elena Marinucci’s proposal for a Resolution on the Commission’s Green Paper on Financial Services. She suggests legislation be introduced in two stages with a horizontal framework directive covering information and price transparency. Commissioner Monti said that a proposal on financial services will be drawn up by September 1997. Legislation on credit cards and home banking would be postponed and a 1988 recommendation would be extended in the meantime.
